Not surprisingly given the audiophile market it was produced for, the DCC gold CD gets more close listening than other versions.  Some listeners have complained about the degree of sibilance in Dylan’s vocals on this release: the “S”s are often noticeably hissy, in a slightly dulled, fluffy sort of way.   However, I’ve gone back and listened to the other CD and vinyl releases, and it seems to me that it’s the same on all of them – even the mono album. The fault was probably either with Dylan’s microphone technique or with the engineering of the original recording.

Perhaps because the DCC CD is that much clearer and more perfect in other respects this slight problem is more noticeable here.  But don’t let this put you off – the gold CD still sounds fantastic.
